Susan Sontag, On Photography - Heber Diaz

Susan Sontag, On Photography

the most grandiose result of the photographic enterprise is to give us the sense that we can hold the whole world in our heads”

Having the idea of having the whole world in our heads could sound crazy, but it is not. When we see a photograph we can remember the moment, but in our heads, we can experiment with the same moment, or feel that moment. We can create memories like small movies in our heads, and sometimes the photograph that brings us to that movie is just the thumbnail.

“Photographs really are experience captured, and the camera is the ideal arm of consciousness in its acquisitive mood.”

We all want to get more experiences, of curse we want good experiences. Pictures can capture that experiences, and help anyone to share that experiences. You can get experiences even just going for a walk, sometimes you can forget those experiences, but maybe if you are lucky there will be a photograph to help you to remember. Some people say that during the happiest moments, you forgot to take pictures.
